WWTP Phase II Improvements Update

WWTP Phase II Improvements Update: the contractor is currently working on the improvements to the Rotating Bacteria Collectors (RBCs). Unfortunately, there have been some challenges with new equipment failures causing the work on the RBCs to take longer. A significant issue resulting from this delay is an increased odor from the RBCs. The increased odor is caused by the removal of the quonset huts that cover the RBCs. The RBCs need to be exposed to have the improvements completed. The contractor is attempting to cover the RBCs with tarps; unfortunately, the tarps don’t control the odor as well as the quonset huts do. The contractor is expecting to have the improvements to the RBCs completed by June 30th. Also, as a result of the delays from the RBC part of the project, the contractor may exceed the original agreed upon completion date of July 15 by two or three weeks.

Note: the good news is that the odor scrubber is working well since it was repaired and put back into service in early spring. However, due to the extended amount of time it is taking to make the improvements to the RBCs, there has been an occasional increase in odor coming from the WWTP.
