WWTP Odor Abatement Project

City of Saline
WWTP Odor Abatement Project
Informational Update

On April 16, 2018, the Saline City Council awarded a construction contract to E&L Construction Group of Flint, Michigan to complete the odor control system at the Saline Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP).  The contractor recently presented a formal schedule for the project at the pre-construction meeting that was conducted on June 11th

The major project components are manufactured specifically for Saline’s project and not warehoused.  Thus, the contractor will spend the next several months procuring equipment and services needed to complete the work.  E&L and its subcontractors are projecting to begin on-site work in August 2018.  The initial phase of the work will primarily consist of preparing the foundations for the air treatment systems and the supports for the air ductwork.  This preparation work is projected to be completed this fall.

The installation of the odor control unit at the Southside Pump Station (located off of Saline/Milan Road, adjacent to Wilderness Park) requires only a small amount of work and that unit is scheduled to be commissioned this fall.  However, the odor control systems at the WWTP will take longer to procure, install and commission.  Work at the WWTP will continue periodically through the winter and the contractor has scheduled the equipment to be commissioned in spring 2019.

The City will maintain the existing odor control system as much as possible throughout the construction. However, there will be several days (expected to be this winter and next spring) where portions of the plant may be operated without odor control in order to connect the wastewater processes to the new odor abatement equipment.  The City will communicate more information ahead of these times and appreciates residents’ patience while this important work is completed.
