One of America's Best Places to Live, Work and Play

Youth Council Applicant

Dear Saline Youth Council Applicant,

The City of Saline Youth Council “SYC” is a regular City Commission.  The Council consists of 13 residents living in the Saline Area School District in grades 9-12, one 8th grade liaison, a City Council representative, a City staff member and as many liaison/non-voting members that would like to participate.  The Mayor appoints members annually for a one-year term, according to the Saline Schools’ calendar, September – June.  SYC members may be contacted to volunteer at some summer events though is not mandatory.

SYC acts on behalf of the area’s youth population to better life for teens in the community.  Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month from September through May, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.  Meetings generally last about one hour. SYC brings important issues to City Council, plans activities and events, attends youth symposiums, leadership and municipal conferences, holds fundraising events, and volunteers at community functions throughout the year.

Saline Youth Council is an excellent way to learn about city government, develop leadership skills, and have a hands-on opportunity to participate in the community.  City commissions may ask for input and help from SYC for a variety of issues and programs that would benefit from the teenage population’s perspective.

Please complete the attached application and questionnaire and return them as soon as possible to the Saline Rec Center, 1866 Woodland Dr., Saline, MI 48176, c/o Jody Roberts. Contact Jody Roberts at 429-3502, ext. 2505,  if you have any questions.
