WWTP Siting Study

The City of Saline recently commissioned a local engineering firm Tetra Tech to conduct a Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Siting Study.  The City Council requested that the Study analyze four specific possibilities that the community could consider to provide sanitary sewer service in the future, including: 1. Update and expand the current WWTP on the existing plant property, 2. Construct a completely new WWTP, 3. Participate in a regional authority (Ypsilanti Community Utility Authority – YCUA) and 4. Combine joining YCUA with updating/expanding the current WWTP.

The Saline City Council has conducted two work sessions to begin evaluating the WWTP Siting Study and the four options.  At the first work session Council reviewed the report, while at the second session they began discussing how the City might finance the alternatives.  The City is currently evaluating which option would be the most beneficial to the community.  The City Council has scheduled another work session for Wednesday, March 18th at 7pm at Saline City Hall, located at 100 N. Harris Street. A copy of the actual WWTP Siting Study and financing information is located on the City of Saline website for review – Siting Study (PDF).

The City of Saline invites residents to review the information on the City’s website and attend the March 18th City Council work session to learn more about the Siting Study.  If you are not able to attend the March 18th work session and have questions/comments regarding the study, please contact the city manager’s office at 734-429-4907, ext. 2212 or by email at
